CONTEST!

I thought I would have a contest on my blog!  While driving home, my dh Charlie and I spotted this on the side of the road.  I am looking for the most creative use of it for my art studio and/or my home.  How to decorate, display, storage uses, fun and funky ideas.  It is heavy wood and I will have to start with a good cleaning. The measurements are 19-1/2 x 24 x 12 with the cubbies measuring 6 x 4-1/2 x 12" deep. The winning idea will receive a prize from me!  The prize is a secret hehehe.  In order to win you have to do the following:
1.  Become a follower of my blog
2.  Leave a comment
3.  Inspire me with your creative minds
The winner will be announced a week from Saturday.  Here is a picture from our "junking" adventure!  Elle

I follow via GFC!

This could be a handy and creative piece of furniture ... if you let it. Sure, you can fill it up with books and magazines, but how about a few of these ideas to get your bookcase glowing with creativity:

Use a few of the arm-level shelves as a place to put your keys & wallet/purse when you first come in the front door. Then, on the shelves just above that, put some framed pictures that make you feel good when you look at them.
"Things" in your home that DON'T have a home - can they be beautifully displayed? How about on your new "display-shelf?" A bookcase serves as a great place to show off things that would otherwise not have a place to "live". Although having too much shtuff is never a good idea, displaying a few meaningful items on an otherwise bland bookcase can turn your room into a much warmer place.
Baskets! Baskets! Baskets! Do you have some "ugly" but useful things that clutter up your living room, office or wherever? Get some cool-looking baskets that fit nicely into your bookshelf and fill them up with things like blankets, remote controls, toys, workout equipment, loose papers and more. Use your imagination, and you can pretty much think of anything ugly that needs hidden! One of my favorite things to do is to get baskets that contrast in color to the bookshelf (e.g. black baskets in a white bookshelf).
Mix it up! Use each of the shelves for something different for an eclectic look. Try a treasure chest on the bottom, a few books stacked neatly in the middle on the second shelf, some black & white framed photos on the third and some baskets holding "ugly" (or pretty) stuff on the fourth, and so on. You get the picture. The key here is that really NOTHING is off limits. Anything can be made to look great if you get those creative juices flowing.

I love trash to treasure items! So exciting isn't it?
As for ideas for it, how about yarn skeins if you are a crocheter. Or balls of yarn if you knit.
IN the craft room the ideas are endless depending on the dimensions of the cubicles. I would like this next to me while i craft to hold things I use all the time...scissors, brad maker, hole puncher, punches, boxes of buttons, boxes of markers, pieces of fabric, boxes of scraps, envelopes, bling, etc etc etc.
You're so lucky to have a husband who doesn't mind searcing for treasures on trash day! lol

Not sure how big this is, but I'm looking at something like that to make a mixed media shadow box.

I thought it was smaller then a shelf cause you said 6"s deep. So I would mayeb make draws for some of the slots. Leave some open. Paint it either like shabby chic white and sand parts off or do bright and prmary colors and go all funky with it. Make some open slots cute of fancy deco and ionside the draws you can either make em out of dood or cardbord like maybe chipboard. You could put things like charms, fabric embellishments, paper dodads, even have a scrap draw of stuff that belongs nowhere else but you just know you can used in your art in the future! Have fun, Sanna

I would find little baskets that would fit (from the dollar store) and fill the baskets with rubber stamps! A different theme for each basket or row of baskets. But that's just me! I love stamps.

I would take the sides and decoupage the sides with pictures. For the insides I would take cloth baskets from Target the ones that are multi-color and use them in the cubbie holes. Than I would label the cloth baskets with what is in there. The uses for this is endless. I love road side treasures LOL.

You could use this as a changing display. each season or holiday you could paint or decoupage a backing for the shelves. If you're not feeling especially creative, scrapbook or wrapping paper would do the trick. mount them on cardboard or something similar in weight. That way they will be easy to pop in and out. Then have some fun filling the cubbies with seasonal decor--anything from ornaments at Christmastime, eggs and bunnies for Easter, things from nature walks with the kidlets for fall--to favorite photos of past celebrations. Be creative and mix it up. Add small paintings in some, rolled up towels in others. Even utensils or spice jars would be adorable! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Wow you lucky girl! This looks like and Expedit unit from Ikea. I have 2 of the larger ones with 25 cubby holes. Mine are in my craft room filled with assorted baskets of craft goodies, cuttlebug, mags, ribbons and lace, Distress Inks, and stamps (a different hole for each type ie: sentiments, magnolias, Stampin Up, and cling etc.and a whole lot more :)
They are fabulous and keep my craft room neat and tidy with everything in its place. Would love to see the finished product when you have decided what to use it for.

I can't tell how big it is however the first thing I thought of when I saw it was a Copic holder or any other Pen holder. It would keep them laying down which is the way it is suggested to store them. I love finds like this.

Hello Elle! I don't know if you can paint these shelves but I was thinking you could paint the outside all one color. Then maybe put some really pretty sticky paper inside the cubbie holes themselves. I think you should use this for all your Art stuff. For you glue, and paint bottles, colored scrap paper, paintbrushes, Art CD's, and maybe some small art idea books as well. Well, that is my idea for your shelves, and I am sticking to it. LOL Hugs, Francine
